What are web design agency rates in the USA?
Web design agency rates in the USA typically fall between $80 and $180 an hour, and most agencies turn that into a project quote rather than billing hours directly. These are directional bands we see quoted in 2026, and they vary with the agency's size, city and specialism.
The hourly band hides a lot. A boutique agency at $100 an hour and a larger firm at $180 might quote similar totals if the smaller team works with fewer handoffs. For how US pricing compares with the UK, Europe, India and Latin America, start with our web design cost by country guide.
What you're buying | Typical US agency range | Designify fixed price |
|---|---|---|
Hourly rate | $80–180 an hour | No hourly billing |
Framer marketing site | About $3k–$28k | $8,000 up to 6 pages, built in Next.js |
Webflow marketing site | About $5k–$80k+ | $8,000 up to 6 pages, built in Next.js |
Next.js marketing site | About $20k–$120k | $8,000 up to 6 pages, +$500 per extra page |
Single landing page | Varies tenfold with copy | $6,000 with copy, design and build |
Ongoing retainer | About $2k–$12k a month | $6,000 a month, design and development |
The ranges are wide because the same label covers very different jobs. A 5-page Framer site built from a strong brief and a 30-page Next.js site with a custom CMS are both called a website.
What do US agencies charge in New York and San Francisco?
Agencies in New York and San Francisco tend to quote at the top of the US band or above it, because salaries and office costs there are the highest in the country. The work itself isn't different; the overhead is.
In practice, a coastal agency quote carries three costs beyond the design. The first is senior salaries in expensive cities. The second is account management, since bigger agencies put a producer or strategist between you and the designers. The third is sales cost: pitches, proposals and discovery workshops that are priced into every project. None of that is bad, but it's worth knowing what share of the quote you're paying for it.
Location mattered more when kickoff meetings were in person. Today most US startups work with their agency over video calls and shared Figma files, so the real question is whether the team can write for an American buyer and keep your hours. Our list of the best web design agencies for startups uses those criteria rather than geography.
Why are some US agency quotes so high?
Some US agency quotes are high because the agency is built for larger clients and prices to protect its margin, not because your site needs that budget. Established firms often set a floor on what they'll take on.
- Project minimums. Some established agencies publish minimums of about $30k–45k per project, which rules out a seed-stage site before the conversation starts.
- Retainer commitments. The same firms often pair a project with a retainer, for example about $6k a month on a 12-month commitment.
- Subscription contracts. At the top end, some design subscriptions charge about $15k a month plus a $1k fee, roughly $192k a year at minimum.
- Discovery phases. Paid discovery before design is common. It's useful when the brief is unclear and wasteful when you already know your audience and offer.
What drives the cost of a US agency website?
The cost of a US agency website is driven mostly by the number of unique page layouts, who writes the copy, the platform, and how many people sit between you and the work. City and brand name come after those.
- Unique layouts. Pages that share templates are cheaper than pages that are all different.
- Copy. Landing-page cost sources note that quotes can differ tenfold depending on whether strategy and writing are included. Ask who writes the words.
- Platform. Next.js builds are custom code and are quoted highest. Framer and Webflow builds are usually cheaper to build but carry platform plan costs.
- Brand work. If you need a logo or identity first, budget for it separately. Our logo design cost guide has the ranges.
- Team layers. Strategists, producers and account managers make large projects run smoothly, and they're billed into every hour.
Hypothetical example: how an hourly band becomes a project quote
For example, suppose a US agency bills a blended $150 an hour and estimates a 6-page site at 40 hours of strategy and copy, 80 hours of design, 100 hours of development and 30 hours of project management. That's 250 hours, or $37,500.
The same scope at $100 an hour is $25,000. These are illustrative figures, not real quotes, but they show why US agency totals climb quickly: development and management hours often outweigh the design itself.
Can a remote studio match US agency quality for less?
A remote studio can match US agency quality for less when it writes for American buyers, overlaps with your working hours and keeps one team on copy, design and code. The savings come from overhead, not from cutting the work.
That's the model we work to. Designify is a small in-house team led by Mehdi Hassan, a copywriter, designer and developer, and we've done 60+ projects across 14+ industries for startups that have raised $300M+. We start with the words, design in Figma and build in Next.js, Framer or Webflow, without layers of account management.
- Website up to 6 pages, custom design, Next.js, CMS
- $8,000
- Landing page with copy, design and build
- $6,000

Not every low quote is the same deal. Some offshore teams price below us but leave copy and QA to you, which is where the risks of offshore web design show up. And if your main goal is the lowest possible price, our guide to an affordable web design agency covers what to give up at each budget.
Should a US startup hire a local agency, a remote studio or build in-house?
A US startup should hire a local agency when it needs in-person workshops or a large multi-team engagement, a remote studio when it needs a defined site at a predictable price, and an in-house team only once design and development work never stops. Each fits a different stage.
Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
Local US agency | Large sites, many stakeholders, in-person workshops | Minimums, long contracts, layers of management |
Remote senior studio | Seed to Series B sites and launch pages | Check time-zone overlap and writing quality |
Freelancer | Small, well-defined pages | Copy and development often excluded |
In-house team | Continuous product and marketing work | Hiring time and fully loaded salaries |
For the in-house route, sources put a fully loaded in-house designer at about $90k–$150k+ a year and two to three months to hire. Our comparison of an in-house team vs an agency for product development goes deeper. If you're also thinking about rebuilding an existing Framer site in code, see Framer to Next.js migration cost.
