Wix to Webflow Migration: Step-by-Step With SEO Redirects

Wix to Webflow migration step by step: what Wix won't export, how Wix URL patterns like /post/ map to Webflow, and a ready redirect template to keep SEO.

By Mehdi Hassan7 min read

The short answer

A Wix to Webflow migration is a manual rebuild, because Wix has no full site export. Rebuild the design in Webflow, move blog posts and other content into CMS collections, match Wix URLs where possible, and add 301 redirects for patterns such as /post/ and /product-page/. That redirect map is what protects your SEO.

Key takeaways

  • Wix can't export your site. Plan to rebuild every page and move content by script or by hand.
  • Name your Webflow blog collection post and most blog URLs need no redirect at all.
  • Wix products live under /product-page/; Webflow Ecommerce uses /product/. Redirect them as a pattern.
  • Download every image from Wix before you cancel. Copied content still points to Wix's servers.
  • Use the redirect template below, then test every row on staging before you move the domain.

How do you migrate a Wix site to Webflow without losing SEO?

You migrate a Wix site to Webflow without losing SEO by rebuilding it in Webflow, keeping as many URLs identical as you can, and adding 301 redirects for every URL that changes. Wix uses fixed URL patterns for blog posts, products and categories, so most of the work is mapping those patterns to Webflow's structure before launch.

This guide is the Wix-specific route. If you're still deciding where to go, our hub on outgrowing Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy compares the options, and Wix vs Webflow vs Framer puts the three side by side.

What can you export from Wix?

Wix does not offer a full site export, so you can't download your pages, design or code and import them anywhere. What you can get out is limited to content you extract yourself, and planning around that limit saves time.

The blog feed usually includes only recent posts and may trim content, so check its output against the live blog before relying on it. For larger blogs, a scraper that reads each post's page gives you the full HTML, which you clean up and import into the Webflow CMS by CSV.

What are the steps in a Wix to Webflow migration?

The migration runs in eight steps, and the order matters: inventory and URL decisions come before any design or content work. Teams that start building first end up redoing slugs later.

  1. Benchmark and crawl

Export 12 months of Search Console data, crawl the Wix site with a crawler, and list every URL with its clicks and backlinks.

  2. Decide the Webflow structure

Create CMS collections for posts, products or case studies, and choose collection slugs that match Wix paths where possible.

  3. Rebuild the design

Build pages and templates in Webflow from scratch. This is the moment to fix layouts that Wix templates forced on you.

  4. Extract content

Pull blog posts, page copy and product data out of Wix, and download every image to a local folder.

  5. Import into the CMS

Clean the HTML, upload images to Webflow, and import posts by CSV or the Webflow API. Check rich text by hand after import.

  6. Fill in SEO fields

Copy each page's title tag, meta description, Open Graph image and alt text. Wix stores these per page, so they don't come with the copy.

  7. Add 301 redirects

Enter the redirect map in Webflow's site settings, using the template below, and test every rule on the staging domain.

  8. Launch and monitor

Point the domain at Webflow, publish, submit the new sitemap in Search Console and check coverage and 404 reports daily.

How do Wix URL patterns map to Webflow?

Wix URLs follow fixed patterns, and Webflow lets you choose the slug for each CMS collection, so many Wix URLs can be matched exactly. The key move is naming collections after Wix's paths, so the URLs stay the same and no redirect is needed.

Wix URL pattern

Webflow equivalent

Redirect needed?

/post/post-slug

Collection named post: /post/post-slug

No, if the slug matches

/blog

A static page at /blog with a collection list

No

/blog/categories/name

Category collection: /blog-categories/name

Yes, pattern redirect

/blog/tags/name

Usually dropped or merged into categories

Yes, to the closest category

/product-page/product-slug

Webflow Ecommerce: /product/product-slug

Yes, pattern redirect

/shop or /category/name

A shop page and category collection

Yes, if paths change

/blank-1, /copy-of-home

A proper slug such as /pricing

Yes, one to one

If you'd rather have cleaner blog URLs such as /blog/post-slug, that's fine too, but it turns every post into a redirect. On a site with search traffic to old posts, we usually keep /post/ and move on.

What does a Wix to Webflow redirect template look like?

A redirect template is a sheet with one row per old URL or pattern, its new destination and a status column for testing. Webflow's 301 redirect settings accept single URLs and pattern rules with capture groups, so a few rules can cover a whole section.

Old path (Wix)

New path (Webflow)

Type

/product-page/(.*)

/product/%1

Pattern, all products

/blog/categories/(.*)

/blog-categories/%1

Pattern, all categories

/blog/tags/pricing

/blog-categories/pricing

Single, tag merged

/blank-1

/pricing

Single, renamed page

/copy-of-about

/about

Single, renamed page

/services-1

/services

Single, renamed page

/blog/hashtags/launch

/blog

Single, retired tag page

How to test the redirect map before launch

Add a status column to the sheet and test each row on Webflow's staging domain after publishing there. For each old path, open it, confirm a single 301 hop lands on the right page, and mark it passed.

Watch for three problems: chains, where a redirect points to another redirect; loops, where two rules point at each other; and pattern rules that catch more URLs than you meant. After launch, run your crawler against the list of old URLs and confirm none return 404. Google's guidance on site moves with URL changes describes the same checks.

Don't redirect everything to the home page. Google treats mass redirects to an unrelated page as soft 404s, so the old page's rankings don't pass on.

How do you move Wix blog posts and products into the Webflow CMS?

You move blog posts by extracting them from Wix, shaping them into a CSV that matches your Webflow collection's fields and importing that CSV. Products follow the same path using the Wix Stores product export and Webflow Ecommerce's product import.

  • Match fields first. Create the Webflow collection with name, slug, body, summary, image, author and category fields before you build the CSV.
  • Keep Wix slugs. Put the exact Wix slug in the slug column so URLs match.
  • Re-host images. Upload images to Webflow and update image URLs in the CSV and the rich text.
  • Check rich text. Webflow's CSV import can turn images inside rich text into placeholders, so review every post with embedded images after import.
  • Respect CMS limits. Check your Webflow plan's CMS item limit against your post and product count.

If you plan to grow the CMS into hundreds of templated pages later, read programmatic SEO in Webflow before you design the collections, and compare platforms in Webflow vs Framer vs Next.js for programmatic SEO.

Is Webflow the right destination after Wix?

Webflow is the right destination after Wix when you need a deeper CMS, more design control and full SEO settings. If your team is design-led and wants to change the site quickly, Framer may suit you better; we cover that route in Wix to Framer migration.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a tool that converts Wix to Webflow automatically?
No reliable one exists. Wix doesn't export its sites in a usable format, and the way Wix builds pages doesn't map to Webflow's structure. Some services scrape a Wix site into rough HTML, but the result still needs rebuilding to be editable in Webflow. Treat any Wix to Webflow move as a rebuild with a content migration alongside it.
How do I move my domain from Wix to Webflow?
If Wix is your registrar, you can either keep the domain at Wix and change its DNS records to point at Webflow, or transfer it to another registrar first. Add the domain in Webflow's hosting settings, copy the records Webflow gives you, and keep any email records unchanged so company email keeps working through the switch.
Will my Wix SEO settings carry over to Webflow?
No. Page titles, meta descriptions, Open Graph images, alt text and structured data have to be re-entered in Webflow. Collect them during the crawl at the start of the project, then add them to each page's settings or to CMS fields that templates use. Missing titles and descriptions are one of the most common causes of ranking drops after a builder migration.
Can I keep my Wix site live while building in Webflow?
Yes, and you should. Build the Webflow site on its staging domain while Wix keeps serving visitors. Only switch DNS once every page, form and redirect has been tested. Keep the Wix plan active for a few weeks after launch as a reference, then cancel once you're sure nothing is missing.
What happens to Wix apps when I move to Webflow?
Wix apps, such as bookings, chat and forms, don't come with you. List every app the site uses and choose a replacement before you build: a scheduling tool for bookings, an embeddable chat widget, and Webflow forms or your CRM's forms for lead capture. Apps are easy to overlook and often add a monthly bill on the new setup.
